Freestyle Self Defense is a fun, non-competitive class that has a strong foundation in practical skills, with a bit of art and conditioning.
Drawing on a variety of influences including Tae Kwon Do, Hap Ki Do, Chi Sau, western boxing/kickboxing, Capoeira, Jiu Jitsu, wrestling and the combat method of the Russian martial art, Systema, we learn to evade, escape, minimize injury, and counter attack.
There is contact in this class, and you will be working directly with other people. Our goal is to remain calm under stress through focus on the breath, be effective in our movement, free in our minds, and grounded through our posture and alignment.
Please come to class prepared to engage with others. The primary focus is not conditioning, although be prepared to sweat, especially if you opt in for more aggressive, open sparring at the end of class.
